People who suffer from burnout are most of the time people with a high workload and with high demands on themselves. They usually work very hard and meet all tasks with the maximum concentration and the highest commitment – but that comes with high costs. Of course, the working environments have changed dramatically in the last decade. Everything has to be done faster, better and realized with less staff. Positive aspect is, however, the increasing media coverage, which helps break down prejudices and show sthe public the risks of burnout.

To be very precise, the burnout syndrome is not a disease but a state of physical and mental exhaustion, which can no longer be compensated by normal recovery times. There is no binding definition of the appearance of a burnout neither an input into classification systems for diseases. Therefore, it is still difficult to distinguish burnout from other psychological phenomena such as depression or anxiety.

Data on the prevalence are still rare, but it is estimated that already 10% of US citizens suffer from a burnout. A psychological counseling or therapy for patients with burnout is advisable, as mental health is essential for a high quality of life and performance.

People who suffer from burnout, respond to the increased stress level usually with even more effort. For the already exhausted body and mind, this can worsen the existing symptoms dramatically. Symptoms such as physical and emotional weakness, depression, problems to cope with everyday life, fear of failure, sleep problems and loss of interest develop into a vicious circle that is very hard to get out of alone. Because of the severe symptoms the patients have less and less energy and are barely recover at all.

Within the therapy we will observe your individual symptoms and behavior patterns, so that we can work on the right solution for you. The sources of stress and stress reactions will be identified and their effects will be analyzed. Those affected usually deal with a lack of adequate strategies to cope with stress. These strategies are learned during therapy and are consolidated in exercises at home to become a permanent part of your daily behavior.

My goal is that you learn again, to effectively recover and to be able to deal with the stresses of your everyday life in future, so that you stay healthy in the long term and are spared from burnout.

I appreciated the way we were able to just chat about whatever was on my mind, even if it had no link with what I was ‘working’ on at the moment. That made me feel free to express myself without restrictions.
